OFFSETTING CO2 EMISSIONS
The future lies in a circular cycle
Among human beings, taking and returning is an alternating gesture that forms the basis of relationships. Why shouldn't it be the same for companies and the planet?
If on the one hand we take, on the other hand we have the duty to return.
This is why we have been collaborating, since 2014, with LifeGate, a benchmark for sustainable development in Italy: together we are taking part in a project aimed at offsetting CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere as a result of any type of activity, product or service.
This project, known as Zero Impact, calculates, reduces and offsets CO2 emissions generated by all our activities, contributing to the creation and safeguarding of growing forests.
To offset the increase in CO2, it is necessary to increase its absorption capacity. In nature, trees have the natural propensity to absorb CO2 and release oxygen through the chlorophyll photosynthesis process.
For a plant to absorb a maximum amount of CO2, it needs to be in the growing phase, i.e. it must not have reached the mature phase yet. Growing plants in tropical forests absorb more CO2 because they have a more suitable climate than forests in a temperate climate.
For this reason, we are committed to planting trees on land that has been deforested or on land that has never been used as forest land in certain geographical areas of the planet such as Costa Rica, Madagascar, Bolivia and DR Congo.
We plant trees to offset the CO2 produced during the life cycle of our shoes. In 5 years, we have helped Lifegate create and protect more than 11,000 square metres of forest per year.
We have always been in tune with Lifegate's ideas and actions since we set-up as a company, when we joined the Forests Standing Tall project to protect the Amazon rainforest in Brazil: 560 hectares of Amazon rainforest, granted for use to 27 families in the San Pedro community to prevent and counteract deforestation, arson, illegal hunting and other environmental crimes.
